Mike Pope Mike Pope (born March 14, 1942〔Dallas Cowboys 2014 Media Guide〕) is the current tight ends coach for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. He previously was a coach for the New York Giants, serving on all of their four Super Bowl Championship teams. ==Career== Pope coached the New York Giants on two separate periods from 1983 to 1991, then from 2000 to 2013. Pope's coaching skills have been attributed as a reason for the success of New York Giants tight ends Jeremy Shockey, Kevin Boss and Jake Ballard. Pope's personal connection to the Giants can be seen in the choice of name for one of his grandsons, Wellington, named for Giants late owner Wellington Mara. Pope was let go by the Giants after the 2013 season.〔(Giants won't retain Mike Pope ).
